Kit Digital: how it has funded (and may fund again) the digitalisation of your golf club

Kit Digital: persona trabajando con un portátil

Kit Digital has been one of the largest public grants for the digitalisation of small and medium-sized businesses in Spain. Many golf clubs and small sports businesses have heard of Kit Digital, but few have made the most of it. The programme, promoted within the España Digital agenda, has already awarded more than 860,000 grants to SMEs, the self-employed and mid-sized companies to fund their digitalisation, and although the calls are currently closed, understanding how it works is the best way to be ready for the next one.

What the programme has covered so far

Kit Digital allocates funding according to company size: up to €3,000 for the smallest businesses, up to €6,000 and €12,000 depending on the SME segment, and larger vouchers (up to €25,000 or €29,000) for mid-sized companies. The amount is spent through a catalogue of approved “digitalising agents” and covers categories closely aligned with what any golf club needs: online presence and e-commerce, process management, customer relationship and marketing tools, and cybersecurity.

Why it fits a golf club especially well

A club that wants to digitalise its online booking, launch a CRM for member loyalty, strengthen the cybersecurity of its database or improve its website to attract new players is literally describing the categories that Kit Digital funds. The grant does not cover hardware or the course’s physical infrastructure, but it does cover much of the management and marketing software that makes the difference between a digitalised club and one that still works as it did ten years ago.

The situation today

When the latest calls closed at the end of October 2025, the application window ended, and the Ministry itself launched the Kit Digital 360º Portal to monitor the programme and provide transparency. This does not mean public funding for digitalisation has disappeared: it means it is worth preparing well in advance for the next call instead of reacting when it is about to close, as happened to many businesses in previous editions.

Which projects to prioritise with grants such as Kit Digital

Not all digital solutions have the same impact on a golf club. With a limited budget, start with the ones that save the team the most hours and visibly improve the member experience. In our experience, the most profitable order is usually this:

  • Website and online booking: the club’s shop window and the channel that generates the most direct revenue. A fast, mobile-first website with an integrated booking engine reduces calls and increases green fee sales.
  • Customer management: centralising members, season-pass holders and visitors in a single database makes it possible to segment communications and spot cross-selling opportunities.
  • Social media and content: a monthly plan with short video and quality photography keeps the club present in its community’s mind.
  • Cybersecurity and digital office: backups, professional email and collaboration tools protect information and organise internal work.

Common mistakes when applying for Kit Digital

The most frequent mistake was treating the grant as an end in itself. Many clubs accepted the first solution they were offered without checking whether it fitted their management software or their processes. The result was tools that nobody used after a few months.

Another common failing was not appointing someone in-house to own the project. Even if the digitalising agent implements the solution, someone at the club has to know it, use it every day and measure its results. Without that person, the investment loses value very quickly.

Finally, many organisations did not keep their supporting documents in order. Having invoices, screenshots and evidence of use to hand avoids problems in later reviews and makes it easier to access new calls.

How to find out whether a call is open

The conditions of public grants change frequently, so we always recommend checking the official information from Red.es and the regional governments before taking decisions. In addition to these national grants, there are regional programmes and European funds that can also cover part of the investment in digitalisation.

How to prepare the club in the meantime

The most efficient approach is not to wait for a new call to decide what to digitalise: define now what the club needs (booking, CRM, cybersecurity, website) and have the project ready to submit as soon as an application window opens. It is also worth checking the registration requirements of the Acelera Pyme system, which is usually the first mandatory step and is best completed in advance.

The Ministry details the programme’s requirements and categories on the Acelera Pyme portal, the obligatory starting point for any club that wants to prepare its Kit Digital application as soon as a call reopens. Having the project already defined also shortens the time between the call opening and the application being sent.

At NGM Golf & Sports Consulting we support clubs through the whole process on our Digital Kit page: digital diagnosis, choice of solutions and the right digitalising agent, implementation and follow-up of results. That way, when a new funding line opens, the club will have its plan ready and can make the most of it from day one. If your club wants to prepare for a future Kit Digital call or similar grants, we can help.
